Adventure Awaits You With Great Smoky Glamping

A whole new kind of experience is coming to America’s most-visited national park. Great Smoky Mountains National Park has always been loved for the incredible beauty of its forested Appalachian setting. It’s long been a place where adventurers could enjoy scenic mountain views, get in a bit of fishing or access the famed Appalachian Trail. Now, with the addition of the Under Canvas camp south of the Mason Dixon line, this special setting also offers a unique eco-friendly glamping opportunity that combines world-class comfort and experience.

Under Canvas Great Smoky Mountains debuts in summer 2018 offering 70 comfortably appointed canvas tents with amenities like in-tent bathrooms and showers, king size beds, sleeper sofas and daily housekeeping. In addition, we’ll have an on-site restaurant to give you even more options. Like Under Canvas sister properties in Zion, Moab, Yellowstone and Glacier national parks, the Great Smoky Mountains location will be staffed by a team trained to combine upscale treatment with outdoor adventure expertise. Plus, this 200-acre camp will follow an eco-friendly approach with solar energy and advanced technology that cuts daily water use for the whole camp to the equivalent of one residential household.

When you’re not lounging in your amazing tent …

As incredible as Under Canvas makes the accommodations, the main attraction of our adventures is always the amazing location … and there’s no exception to that here for sure. Great Smoky Mountains National Park is filled with adventure opportunities. Hikes range from short kid-friendly walks to highly technical climbs. There are ample opportunities to view wildlife, such as wild turkeys, elk and black bears. And more than 2,000 miles of streams feed more than 40 beautiful waterfalls ranging up to 90 feet in height.

Among the incredible destination hikes in the park, you might consider Charlies Bunion, Rainbow Falls or the Chimney Tops. Charlies Bunion is a massive rock outcropping offering incredible views over majestic mountain ridges. The hike is four miles each way stemming from the famed Appalachian Trail. The hike to Rainbow Falls is 2.7 miles with 1,700 feet in altitude change each way. To get the full rainbow effect, plan to reach the falls in the afternoon when the sun hits them just right to create a brilliant color spectrum in their mist. The Chimney Tops Trail covers a steep 1,400-foot-climb over a four-mile round trip. Your climbing efforts will be rewarded with views of Mount LeConte from atop one of the chimneys … a steep rocky pinnacle.

No matter what kind of adventures you prefer in this diverse Appalachian wonderland, the Under Canvas team will be ready with guidance and assistance. It’s our mission to make your experiences of this and our other amazing settings the fullest and most rewarding they can be.
