Yellowstone National Park Entry Information

Reservations are not required at Yellowstone National Park. You will have to pay the national park fee. Standard national park fees range from $20-$30. You can purchase an America The Beautiful annual pass that allows access to any national park.

Tips for Visiting Yellowstone National Park: 

  • Arrive Early: The North Entrance, located near Gardiner, Montana, can get busy, especially during peak tourist season. Arriving early can help you avoid crowds and find parking more easily.

  • Plan Your Route: Yellowstone National Park is vast, and planning your route in advance can help you make the most of your time. Consider what sights and activities you want to prioritize.
  • Stay on Marked Trails: For your safety and to protect the park’s ecosystem, always stay on designated trails and boardwalks, especially in geothermal areas.
  • Wildlife Safety: Keep a safe distance from wildlife. Use binoculars for viewing animals, and never approach or feed them.

  • Is the North Entrance to Yellowstone open?

    Yes, the North Entrance of Yellowstone National Park is open 24-hours a day. Visit the National Park Service for more information on the park status.

  • What are the attractions at the North Entrance of Yellowstone?

    The most popular attractions near the North Entrance are Roosevelt Arch, Mammoth Hot Springs and wildlife viewing in the Lamar Valley.

  • What is the difference between the Yellowstone north entrance vs west entrance?

    Marked by the iconic and original Roosevelt Arch, the North Entrance is the entry point of choice for those traveling from the Pacific Northwest. It gives park guests close access to Mammoth Hot Springs and is only minutes from the small western town of Gardiner, MT and Lamar Valley with the highest density of wildlife in the national park The West Entrance is found on the western side of the park near the town of West Yellowstone, Montana, not far from the Wyoming border. Once you pass the West Entrance, it is around 14 miles before you reach Madison, a basepoint for the surrounding geyser basins.

  • Where is Paradise Valley, Montana?

    Paradise Valley in southwestern Montana lies just north of Yellowstone National Park, nestled between the Absaroka Range to the east and the Gallatin Range to the west.

  • Do the tents have air conditioning?

    Our tents do not have air conditioning. If you are visiting in the summer please keep this in mind. They do have USB fans and misting systems to help cool the tents a little.

     

  • Is there electricity in the tents?

    In order to provide an experience that allows guests to disconnect and feel truly immersed in nature, and to minimize the use of precious resources, there is no electricity or outlets in the tents. However, there are battery-powered fans and lanterns with USB plugs so you can charge at least two cell phones. USB-C charging adaptors are available upon request on a first-come, first-serve basis. Be sure to bring your own charging cable if you require anything other than a USB. If you need a powered battery for a CPAP or medical device, just let us know in advance of your stay so that we can request one. Powered batteries are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  • Is there Wi-Fi?

    At Under Canvas we believe connecting with those around us and exploring the great outdoors is invaluable. For this reason, we do not have any Wi-Fi at any of our locations.

  • What should I pack?

    Be sure to check the weather before arriving and pack accordingly for all weather conditions. You may want to bring quality hiking shoes, backpacks, water bottles and a USB cell phone charging cord to use with the USB battery packs in your tent. Rain jackets are also advised, just in case! But not to worry, our tents are fully weatherized and are capable of handling common rainstorms. Directions from Bozeman, Montana

Head East on 1-90 toward Livingston, MT for 32.8 miles. Take exit 333 for US-89 South in Livingston, MT. Follow US-89 South for 9.6 miles and take a left at Pine Creek Road. Follow the dirt road for ~1 mile and turn left at the Under Canvas North Yellowstone – Paradise Valley signs. If you reach a parking lot for fishing access on the river you have gone too far… just turn around and come back to the first dirt road that will then be on your right.

Directions from Gardiner, MT

Take US-89 North towards Livingston, MT for 42.9 miles. Turn right onto Pine Creek Road. Follow the dirt road for ~1 mile and turn left at the Under Canvas North Yellowstone – Paradise Valley signs. If you reach the parking a for fishing access on the river you have gone too far… just turn around and come back to the first dirt road that will then be on your right.
