Under Canvas Grand Canyon FAQs

  • Are dogs allowed in the Grand Canyon?

Pets are allowed in developed areas such as: in your cars while driving park roads, picnic areas, along roads when you are stopped, in parking areas, and in boats on lakes where motorized watercraft are permitted. Dogs are welcome to stay at Under Canvas Grand Canyon! Check out our blog on Things to Do With Your Dog Around the Grand Canyon.

  • What is the closest airport to the Grand Canyon?

The closest airport to Under Canvas Grand Canyon is  Flagstaff Pulliam Airport, Flagstaff, AZ (1 hour), Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Phoenix, AZ (3 hours),or Harry Reid International Airport, Las Vegas, NV (3.5 hours).

  • When is the best time to visit the Grand Canyon?

The best time to visit Grand Canyon National Park is April through October, when the weather is comfortable. Because the Grand Canyon is higher in elevation, temperatures remain quite comfortable through the summer.

  • Do the tents have air conditioning?

Our tents do not have air conditioning. If you are visiting in the summer please keep this in mind. They do have USB fans and misting systems to help cool the tents a little.

  • Is there electricity in the tents?

In order to provide an experience that allows guests to disconnect and feel truly immersed in nature, and to minimize the use of precious resources, there is no electricity or outlets in the tents. However, there are battery-powered fans and lanterns with USB plugs so you can charge at least two cell phones. USB-C charging adaptors are available upon request on a first-come, first-serve basis. Be sure to bring your own charging cable if you require anything other than a USB. If you need a powered battery for a CPAP or medical device, just let us know in advance of your stay so that we can request one. Powered batteries are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  • Is there Wi-Fi?

At Under Canvas we believe connecting with those around us and exploring the great outdoors is invaluable. For this reason, we do not have any Wi-Fi at any of our locations.

Want to unplug, be present, and unwind? Check out our Camp Programming page for an example list of on-site programs that may be offered during your stay.

  • What is the weather like?

Please be sure to check the weather before arriving and pack accordingly for all weather conditions. Due to the remote locations and high altitudes of many of our camps, the weather can be unpredictable. Occasionally, in a very dry summer, a fire ban can be in effect for a specific location. We recommend that you come prepared for colder evenings, particularly if using your wood stove becomes impossible due to fire restrictions.

  • What should I pack?

Be sure to check the weather before arriving and pack accordingly for all weather conditions. You may want to bring quality hiking shoes, backpacks, water bottles and a USB cell phone charging cord to use with the USB battery packs in your tent. Rain jackets are also advised, just in case! But not to worry, our tents are fully weatherized and are capable of handling common rainstorms. If you want a full packing list for the location you are visiting, check out the packing lists on our blog.
