Stargazing at a DarkSky Certified Camp
Under Canvas Grand Canyon is a certified DarkSky destination, set at 6,000 feet in piñon and juniper forest far from city lights. On clear nights, the Milky Way stretches across some of the darkest skies in Arizona. Take it in from your private deck, at a nightly campfire, or without leaving bed: the Stargazer tent’s viewing window sits directly above your king-size bed, so the night sky is the last thing you see before you fall asleep.
Designed to help you disconnect
Every detail of your tent is intentional, including what we've left out.
Pull-chain showers
Hot water on demand, using far less than a hotel shower. Lighter on the landscape you came to see.
Power for what matters
Your tent is intentionally unplugged. USB battery packs keep your phone and camera ready for tomorrow.
Lanterns, not light switches
Lanterns light your tent, and a deck light guides you home. Your eyes adjust to the dark, and the night sky opens up.
Unplug and recharge
We keep tents Wi-Fi-free so evenings fill with what they should: campfires, s'mores, stargazing, and deep sleep.
Grand Canyon Tent FAQs
-
Are you pet (dog) friendly?
Yes! We charge a non-refundable pet fee of $35 fee per pet, per night. This fee includes an Under Canvas bandana for your pet. Pets are not to be left unattended at any time. If you are planning any adventure, please verify that pets are allowed before booking. *We allow dogs only.
-
Do the tents have air conditioning?
Our tents do not have air conditioning. If you are visiting in the summer please keep this in mind. Our Grand Circle Camps (Grand Canyon, Lake Powell- Grand Staircase, Moab and Zion) do have USB fans and misting systems to help cool the tents a little.
-
Is there electricity in the tents?
In order to provide an experience that allows guests to disconnect and feel truly immersed in nature, and to minimize the use of precious resources, there is no electricity or outlets in the tents. However, there are battery-powered fans and lanterns with USB plugs so you can charge at least two cell phones. USB-C charging adaptors are available upon request on a first-come, first-serve basis. Be sure to bring your own charging cable if you require anything other than a USB. If you need a powered battery for a CPAP or medical device, just let us know in advance of your stay so that we can request one. Powered batteries are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
-
Can I lock the tent?
The tents do not have locks. However, they do zip up with both an inner mesh netting, and an additional canvas exterior shell. We do suggest keeping all valuables such as cash, jewelry, cameras, passports, etc. with you or in a locked vehicle.
-
Can we park in front of our tent?
There are central parking lots throughout the camps. The tents are accessible via a foot path. For those who have a hard time getting around, just let us know and we can assist you with a golf cart or request a tent closer to the parking lots for you.
-
What are the en suite bathrooms like?
The in-tent bathrooms are designed with Under Canvas’ Mindful Approach in mind. They are fully equipped with pull-chain showers for water conservation, faucets that automatically shut off, low-flow flush toilets, and refreshing E.O. bath products.
